Day 7 - Grand Detour & Night time advertures

Free breakfast thanks to Spyros' Kantina on the edge of Thessalonica

Beauty in decay?

Peter my friend from the Greek army and I spent the afternoon chatting and drinking coffee after touring the army museum. His advise on border crossings needed a grand detour adding three to four days to my trip, but would be rewarded with beautiful mountains and his favourite village in Greece.

The detour begins, south instead of north... hope I am doing the right thing!

Hills outside Valeria, beautiful and the local Hoteliers know it! After several failed attempts go obtain a room at a sensible price one receptionist reveals the 'Cartel' approach to local price fixing which means I must either pay up or move on... dark soon!

So I look at the map and a mere 17miles away is another town, so of I set :)

Not realising my country road would go over the summit of a mountain, it took a little longer than expected...
The highway below, gently sweeping around the base of the mountain. Check points on the highway prohibited that option!
When I finally got to town everything was unsurprisingly shut, so a bedded down for the night in a field. As I am trying to keep to Hotels and guest houses I only have limited sleeping kit i.e. no tent!
